The Dred Scott decision said, “They Have no rights that we must value.” Throughout the history of our country the value placed on the individual rights of individuals with specific identities has shifted. Today, we are in the midst of another shift. How do we, as public defenders, charged with championing the rights of the indigent and often, the people from marginalized communities, ensure that the individuality of our clients and ourselves are celebrated in our work. Our speaker will inspire us to be bold in our advocacy and dedicated to our core values.
