National Campaign to Address the Harms Caused by ASFA

This year marks the 25th year of enactment of the Adoption and Safe Families Act (ASFA).

Please join us for the first of three events in the National Campaign to Address the Harms Caused by the Adoption and Safe Families Act: Reimaging Permanency. Family Integrity & Justice Works at Public Knowledge® will host a kickoff webinar on Wednesday, November 2. Then in mid/late November, Children’s Rights will hold a panel event featuring the voices of impacted individuals. Finally, in December there will be an event focusing on legislative reform. The campaign events will feature the voices of national experts and advocates!

On Wednesday, November 2, 2pm-3:30pm, EST, Family Integrity & Justice Work (FIJW) at Public Knowledge®, in partnership with Children’s Rights, the Center for the Study of Social Policy (CSSP), the National Association of Counsel for Children (NACC), and United Family Advocates(UFA), will host a webinar that will spotlight and address the harms of ASFA.

The webinar will include a panel of advocates and national experts who have lived expertise and have been personally impacted by ASFA. The interactive panel will discuss how to effectively advocate against, and question, the adoption of numerous destructive and traumatic ASFA-related policies and practices to families within child welfare systems. Featured speakers will include Vivek Sankaran, Shrounda Selivanoff, Jerry Milner, and Kathleen Creamer. The event will include thoughts from Marty Guggenheim.
