The MHLD Training Unit, along with MHLD Staff and Panel Present:
Raising Racial Bias Issues in your Cases
Investigate the role of racial bias in the treatment of your client at sectioning, admission, and petition phases to demonstrate discriminatory targeting, disparate treatment and unlawful practices in your commitment and guardianship cases.
Come join us for this collaborative training examining how to effectively advocate and tell your clients’ stories by exploring the use of racial bias in your case theory.
April 14th from 1-3pm on Zoom
2 CLE Credits: MHLD Trial Panel and MHLD Appellate Panel
We will begin with an interactive panel discussion to explore: relevant research and data on how race impacts our BIPOC clients disparately in the Mental Health System; the clinical perspective including cultural competency and racial trauma; and how our colleagues have raised race in their cases.
After the panel, we will then break out into small groups for all to brainstorm practical ways to use our knowledge about the impact of racial bias on the treatment of our clients to litigate race and educate the court in concrete ways.
After the training, you will be able to:
