Holistic Post-Conviction Representation: How Social Service Experts Can Help Attorneys Help Their Clients Through the Post-Conviction World

February 16, 2022 @ 1:00 pm - 2:00 pm

Training

Wednesday, February 16, 2022

1PM-2PM

1 CLE for YAD Appeals and Adult Criminal Appeals

There must be some argument I can make based on these treatment records.

I feel like there is something I am not doing right when I talk with my client, he doesn’t seem to understand or remember anything I say.

If we win this motion and he gets released, he is going to need help with reentry.  Where do I start…

If you have ever had these thoughts as you work on a post-conviction or appellate case, join us for a panel presentation on how a social services expert can help you provide your client with holistic and zealous post-conviction representation.

During this 60-minute virtual training, we will cover:

  • CPCS staff and resources available to assist you with more holistic representation
  • Mental Health and Social Services 101
  • Suggestions on how to incorporate social services into your post-conviction advocacy
  • Litigating and Appealing Motions for Funds

In addition, social service private vendors who attended a companion training in October (“The Process of Post-Conviction Litigation”) and are interested in working on post-conviction cases will join us for a short “meet and greet” with counsel.

Presenters:

Youth Advocacy Division:
Claudia Dunne, Director of Social Work & Private Social Service Vendors
Afton Templin, Director of Juvenile Appeals
Sarah LoPresti, Staff Counsel, Juvenile Appeals

Adult Criminal, Private Counsel Division:
Kristin Dame, Director of Private Social Work Services
Matthew Harper-Nixon, Staff Counsel, Criminal Appeals Unit
