SUMMARY:a cross-divisional 101- SERIES Beginning with MH-101
DESCRIPTION:The CPCS Training Department HOLISTIC DEFENSE WORKING GROUP Presents:\na cross-divisional 101- SERIES Beginning with MH-101 \nAll you’ve ever wanted to know about mental health litigation… \nJune 8 from- 1pm- 2pm: Part 1- Commitment Practice \nhttps://us02web.zoom.us/meeting/register/tZwud-CgrDsjGNVbHIIICGZjNd2CRm6FH3KC \nJune 25 from 1pm-2pm- Part 2- Guardianship Practice \nhttps://us02web.zoom.us/meeting/register/tZwud-CgrDsjGNVbHIIICGZjNd2CRm6FH3KC \nApproved for 1 CLE credit for each training \nfor CAFL\, YAD\, Criminal Appeals\, and YAD Appeals \nYou will hear from staff and private MHLD attorneys who will explain the nuts and bolts of mental health cases: a client’s entry into the mental health system\, the timeline of a case\, the statutes and significant cases implicated\, the litigation issues which arise\, and how the client gets committed\, discharged or placed under guardianship. During the presentation\, we will flag critical points of overlap with other practice areas to watch out for. A brief Q & A will follow. Both sessions will be recorded and made available on My Gideon. \n\nYou will identify how people enter the mental health system:\n\nSectioning process;\nHow and for whom temporary & permanent guardianship petitions arise;\n\n\nYou will be able to describe how the Respondents/clients facing civil commitment and forced medication face unique challenges in their litigation;\nYou will understand how historically guardianship cases have not been fully litigated but how this is changing in ways applicable to your practice areas;\nYou will recognize that zealous advocacy is as critical in guardianship cases as in commitment cases because of the fundamental rights at issue and how temporary/emergency guardianships often become permanent deprivations of liberty.\n\n**Please register in advance for the sessions with the links above and you will subsequently receive a confirmation email to join.

SUMMARY:NCLER: What it Takes to Age in Place: Bringing Housing and Home & Community-Based Services (HCBS) Together
DESCRIPTION:This program is hosted by National Center on Law and Elder Rights (NCLER). Any questions or issues regarding this program should be directed there (ncler@acl.hhs.gov). This event is being listed for informational purposes only. CPCS staff cannot assist with\, or solve\, registration issues. \n  \nFree Webinar: \n What it Takes to Age in Place: Bringing Housing and Home & Community-Based Services (HCBS) Together\nWhen: Thursday\, June 17\, 2021\, at 2:00-3:00 E.T. \nMost people want to age in place and stay near their friends and family and in their community. This ideal can become complicated when housing becomes unstable or unaffordable\, or when supportive services are not available in the home and community. This training will explore the intersection of health and housing to support aging in place. It will provide information about Medicaid Home and Community-Based Services (HCBS)\, as well as what housing-related services can be funded through Medicaid. \nParticipants will: \n1.   Understand the connection between health and housing; \n2.   Learn the different ways that Medicaid can fund HCBS to keep people in their homes or create housing for people experiencing homelessness; and \n3.   Hear about examples of different community models that have integrated housing and health care to support housing stability\, including for previously homeless older adults. \nPresenters: \n·        Patti Prunhuber\, Senior Housing Staff Attorney\, Justice in Aging \n·        Claire Ramsey\, Senior Health Staff Attorney\, Justice in Aging \nClosed captioning will be available on this webcast. A link with access to the captions will be shared through GoToWebinar’s chat box shortly before the webcast start time. \nThis training will be presented in a WEBCAST format to accommodate more participants. Due to the high volume of participants\, computer audio will be the only option to listen to the presentation. No telephone call-in number will be provided. Please plan accordingly. Thank you. \nThis webcast will be recorded and available on our website shortly after the presentation. The recording and training materials will also be emailed to all registrants within a few days after the training. \nThe webcast will take place on Thursday\, June 17\, 2021\, at 2:00 p.m. ET and will run for one hour.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nRegister Here
