SUMMARY:Voir Dire Part One: De-Selection: Strategic Jury Selection
DESCRIPTION:We’re Back: Selecting a Jury\nWe went a while without selecting juries so the training department has come up with a three-part series on jury selection so that as we start up again we can pick a jury better than ever before.  The first two parts are remote trainings and are open for registration. The third part will be in person offered in multiple locations – details about part 3 will be forthcoming when we know more about when in person trainings of this nature can happen. \nWe have limited enrollment due to including small groups so please sign up as soon as you know you can attend and let us know in advance if you need to cancel so that we can fill your spot.  It is recommended that you attend both days as day 1 will help inform day 2\, but please sign up for them independently.  Each session is $10.00 \nDay One (March 16 2pm to 4pm)  will include a short lecture explaining deselection followed by work in small groups to identify and consider different types of jury selection and identify the benefits of a deselection strategy.  You and your group will brainstorm deselection questions related to a mock case that we will be using for Days 2 and 3 and learn about using deselection in different structures of jury selection such as panel voir dire\, individual voir dire\, judge conducted voir dire\, a supplemental questionnaire\, etc. \nSee Link Below to Register – after registration you will receive a zoom link to join the training. \nREGISTER HERE \nDay Two – March 23 – 2pm to 4pm – See calendar posting for day two program here \n

These hearings have been commonplace in some counties for years and in others there has been a dramatic recent increase in attempts to cage our clients without bail pre-trial. Please only sign up if you can come to both sessions\, and they build on each other. \nThis training will include: \nPre-work: A few pre-recorded lectures on tips for litigating 58A hearings. \nDay One:  On the first afternoon we will have four live mini-lectures on topics like preserving testimony\, discovery cross\, documenting why conditions of release will work and dealing with priors. We will also work in small groups to brainstorm ways to apply these tools in our cases. Between Session One and Session Two you will prep for your portion of a mock 58A hearing. \nDay Two: The second afternoon will be on your feet time. You will practice putting these tools to work for your client’s benefit in a mock 58A hearing. We will also have a mini-lecture on appealing a 58A. \nWe will have to limit space to make sure the small group workshop time is the most productive\, so please sign up soon! \n
