SUMMARY:PROTECTING THE EDUCATION RIGHTS OF EMERGING ADULTS
DESCRIPTION:CPCS Training Department Presents: \nPROTECTING THE EDUCATION RIGHTS OF EMERGING ADULTS \nApril 20th from 1- 2:30pm \nRegister Here:  https://us02web.zoom.us/meeting/register/tZYof-qhqT0tE9Da8ZzuCN_JgWcu2Qi8HEiy \nStudent’s education rights do not end when they turn 18 years old. In fact\, many students are in past their 18th birthday\, and some remain in school until they turn 22 years old. Understanding and advocating for your client’s education rights can have a significant impact on both their legal and life outcomes. \nElizabeth Levitan from the Edlaw Project will help us understand the education rights our emerging adult clients have beyond the age of 18\, how a criminal charge can threaten school status\, and how understanding and advocating on behalf of your client’s education rights can benefit their criminal case. \n1.5 CLE Adult Criminal\, Adult Criminal Appeals\, YAD Trial Panel\, YAD Appeals\, CAFL

SUMMARY:Optimizing Treatment for Your Community: Utilizing Culturally Adapted Evidence-Based Treatments and Practices
DESCRIPTION:This program is hosted by SAMHSA Gains Center. Any questions or issues regarding this program should be directed there. (SAMHSAInfo@samhsa.hhs.gov). This event is being listed for informational purposes only. CPCS staff cannot assist with\, or solve\, registration issues. \nOptimizing Treatment for Your Community: Utilizing Culturally Adapted Evidence-Based Treatments and Practices\nApril 29\, 2022\, 12:30–2:00 p.m. ET \nThere are a number of evidence-based practices (EBPs) that are available for the treatment of substance use disorders; however\, many standard EBPs and therapies may not produce the expected outcomes across culturally diverse client populations. To improve treatment outcomes\, EBPs may need to be adapted to better address cultural considerations\, including differences in language\, values\, and other factors that contribute to treatment initiation\, engagement\, and retention. This webinar will begin with a presentation on steps towards modifying EBPs to increase cultural responsivity. Two presentations on culturally adapted EBPs – Motivational Interviewing (MI) for Native Americans and web-based Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Latinx populations – will follow. \nTHIS PROGRAM QUALIFIES FOR 1.5 MHLD CLEs \nREGISTER HERE

SUMMARY:CAFL follow up to Why Race Matters #4 – See Something\, Say Something
DESCRIPTION:Racial bias permeates throughout all family regulation cases.  We hope to follow-up Professor Henning’s See Something\, Say Something presentation to focus on CAFL cases and how racial bias\, hyper-surveillance\, and the traumatic effects of family policing impacts our clients and court cases.   We hope to develop a better understanding of how to use skills and strategies presented to challenge “dehumanizing language\, attitudes\, and legal decisions” in all stages of a care and protection case.\nRegister Here
