DESCRIPTION:February MHLD RED (Race\, Equity and Diversity) Talk \nFebruary 26\, 2025 @ 12:00 pm – 1:00 pm \nDrop-in Lunch & Learn to build on other recent race trainings and support you in your MHLD practice! \nTHIS PROGRAM QUALIFIES FOR 1 CLE ON THE MHLD TRIAL & APPEALS PANEL \n  \nBring your lunch and come join your colleagues on MHLD staff and panel to talk informally and brainstorm about raising race in our cases. Do you believe that your client’s mental health treatment\, admission to a facility or petition for commitment/guardianship is being impacted by racial bias? \n  \nThis month\, we will be joined by Dr. Itiel Dror\, a neuroscientist\, who specializes on the existence of expert bias and its impact on evaluations and opinions reached. \nHe will explain how we can educate the court about the way “bias blindspots” could result in deficient evaluations and inaccurate ultimate opinions about our clients. \n  \nHere are several articles that Dr. Dror provides if you have a chance to review (but not required)! \n\nThe most consistent finding in forensic science is inconsistency\nCognitive and Human Factors in Expert Decision Making\nA general approach for improving decision making as well as minimizing noise and bias: Linear Sequential Unmasking\n\n  \nWith Dr. Dror’s expertise\, we can also talk about how to tell your client’s story\, develop strategy\, draft cross and direct examinations\, move to admit language from relevant studies and articles and make effective arguments to the court. \n  \nThis is also a chance to case crunch your cases with your colleagues over lunch! \n  \nCome join us! \n  \nRegistration is required.
