SUMMARY:Challenges of the First 3 Interviews with a Parent Client
DESCRIPTION:This training focuses on the first few meetings with a new client and the challenges that those meetings present. Topics discussed will include: the time pressure of preparing a new client for a hearing while that client is still dealing with the trauma of removal; role clarification and boundary-setting; reading the signs of past trauma and its impact on a client’s affect during the early interviews; affective (affective\, not effective\, but we hope for that too) messaging during the interview as both support and behavioral response; the way shame\, sadness\, and anger play out in these interviews and some ways to approach and manage\, and then return to the preparation for hearing.
