DESCRIPTION:Cross-Practice Workshop: On Your Feet with Impeachment\n  \nOctober 26th and 28th from 1:00-4:00pm on Zoom  \n  \n6 CLE: Mental Health\, Adult Criminal\, YAD\, CAFL \n  \nAttorneys from multiple CPCS practice areas will work together to refresh and sharpen impeachment skills. Fictional client Makayla Jones has open cases with YAD/PDD\, CAFL and MH. Participants will work together to review impeachment fundamentals and develop a theory of the case for their individual practice areas. Participants will learn how to decide whether to impeach\, which mode of impeachment to use\, and how to impeach effectively. Participants will practice impeachment by inconsistent statement and impeachment by omission. Get ready to have some fun as we work on one of the most important and difficult skills in our trial attorney toolbox!  \n  \nPlease note that there are strict limits to the number of participants we can accept from each practice area. CPCS staff cannot assist with\, or solve\, registration issues.\nHow We EndUp: A Future Without Family Policing Convening  \nThe UpEnd Movement is holding its 2nd annual convening of organizers\, activists\, scholars\, and community leaders who are committed to dismantling the family policing system\, a system predicated on the subjugation\, surveillance\, control\, and punishment of mostly poor Black and Native children and families.  The conference will commence with a keynote presentation by Derecka Purnell\, human rights lawyer\, organizer\, and author of Becoming Abolitionist\, in conversation with scholar\, social justice activist and author of the seminal book Shattered Bonds: The Color of Child Welfare\, Dorothy Roberts.  It will bring these voices together to explore how we can move toward abolition of family policing—how we can dismantle harmful\, racist systems and build different ways of caring for one another. \nThe conference will be held October 26-27 from 1:00-4:15pm Tuesday and Wednesday.  It’s approved for 3 CAFL CLEs each day and you can register here.
