SUMMARY:Legal Services of New Jersey Justice Series Substance Use in the Child Welfare System
DESCRIPTION:Join us as we explore substance use in thechild welfare system\, the stereotypes and\nconfusion. The webinar focuses on ways\nremovals can be prevented by supporting\nparents with substance use disorders\, and\nthe need for a nationwide culture shift to\nprevent removals. \nWe’ll also discuss the Adoption and Safe\nFamilies Act (ASFA)\, which requires states\nto file a termination of parental rights (TPR)\npetition for any child who has remained\nin foster care for 15 of the previous 22\nmonths. ASFA presents major challenges\nto parents suffering from substance use\ndisorders. \nDue to limited treatment programs and services\, they face delays in\ncompleting their case plans within the ASFA timeline. \n  \n[Information Flyer]
