Mara joined YAD staff in March of 2011 after representing youth in DYS revocation cases as a solo practitioner. Mara graduated from Northeastern University School of Law in 2008, where she was a recipient of the school’s Public Interest Law Scholarship. During school she worked as a student attorney and clinical teaching assistant for the Prisoners’ Rights Clinic. She also served as a team leader with the Domestic Violence Institute, providing social and legal services to survivors. In addition to her legal focus on post-conviction representation, she worked for four years as a social services advocate. In that role she coordinated services for people living with HIV, addiction, and homelessness, and trained staff on advocating for people with criminal records. Mara is a member of the Juvenile Defense Advisory Committee. She graduated from Wesleyan University in 2001 with a B.A. in Government.
